Solution for the campus of this important center of superior studies in Peru improves the connectivity experience of more than 4200 users
Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise today announced that the Universidad del Pacifico (UP), a small private college in the Jesus Maria district of the city of Lima, Peru, has selected a connectivity solution from Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise for the total connection of its campus. In the last three decades, the University has been classified as one of the most renowned universities of Peru in the fields of economy, law, finance, accounting, and business administration and is considered one of the leading institutions in the Latin American region.
The University experienced problems with management and maintenance of the existing platform, caused mainly by an old and obsolete infrastructure. The University needed to replace the existing network and wireless installation with a converged infrastructure solution, using the latest technology to benefit both students and staff members through the opportunity to use their own devices (Bring Your Own Device or BYOD).
One of the key points was that Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise provided improvements in networks, while delivering a greater amount of services, all without disrupting the overall performance. The university also had confidence in developing a long term business relationship with Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise, since the company offers a complete portfolio of solutions of voice andconverged networks, according to the needs of this educational institution.
The University network is now fully powered over Ethernet. In addition, all backbone connections are updated to 20 Gbps with link aggregation control protocol. The central switches are now 40Gbps with links to the DMZ zone, running through a firewall. Since deployment, the University is now covered by a wireless dual channel 802.11n, and will use the new standard 802.11ac in all of the new rooms.
Thanks to Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise solutions, the University will achieve a saving of US $120,000 this year. Two virtual labs using the Bring Your Own Device concept were created, and so no additional investment was required.
Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise solutions allow all students and staff members to easily accommodate BYOD, enhancing user experience in every way.
