High-perfomace infrastructure from Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise provides network for one of Germany's largest BMW dealerships

Menton Automobilcenter, one of the largest BMW dealers in Germany, has implemented a new wired and wireless network based on Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise network equipment. The end-to-end network that links three sites to the data center based at the company headquarters in Reutlingen is a pilot installation that can be implemented at any owner-managed car dealership.

Hermann Menton GmbH & Co. KG, one of the ten oldest BMW dealers in Germany, has been a successful BMW dealer since 1932. This family business is now one of the largest BMW dealers operating today with locations in Reutlingen, Tuebingen and Bad Urach in the south of Germany. To facilitate collaboration and support future growth, Menton required a high-performance network as a basis for reliable communications between its different locations.

Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise's long-standing business partner nds Netzwerksysteme GmbH developed the overall solution based on the OmniSwitch 6450 and OmniSwitch 6850E. The new solution ensures high-performance connections between all sites despite long cable routings through the use of integrated 10-Gigabit connectivity for all hosts. It also significantly reduces the administrative burden by providing a network where all functions and components are part of an integrated infrastructure.

Carsten Pleyer, IT Manager, Menton
“It is a major benefit of the new solution that it can be administered much more easily. As all the functions and components are part of our new integrated infrastructure, the overall solution can be monitored and controlled much more efficiently.”

Jochen F. Fischer, CEO, nds Netzwerksysteme GmbH
"Our complete solution ensures that all components perfectly fit together and that there will be no compatability problems. Additional adaptions or tests are not required, which is a major benefit for dealerships.”
