ALE, operating under the Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise brand, has today announced the completion of a complete digital overhaul of the luxury Swiss Hotel Waldhaus Flims. The new solution provides guests with access to high speed Wi-Fi and hotel services anywhere on hotel grounds over a single unified network. The full network and communications infrastructure was designed and deployed by long-standing premium ALE business partner, Alpiq InTec.
Hotel Waldhaus Flims Alpine Grand Hotel & Spa forms part of the largest hotel park in Switzerland with 142 rooms and leisure facilities for guests. To minimise the physical profile of the new hardware in the 140-year old hotel, it was essential to employ minimal data cabling and Power over Ethernet capabilities. To achieve this, Alcatel-Lucent OS69000 core switches and OS6450 access switches form a low-latency fibre-connected backbone between the data center and the floor distributers in the different hotel buildings. Through the use of hospitality access points, the hotel rooms could be connected via one single LAN cable. These specialized access points act as ‘mini-switches’ which ensure access to internet, telephony and video entertainment.
The hotel telephony was implemented with the IP telephony system Alcatel-Lucent OmniPCX Enterprise. It is connected to the hotel’s Property Management System (PMS), which enables optimal services for the hotel guests, including adaptation of the menu language, wake-up calls, individual invoicing as well as check-in/check-out functionality.
The new solution has been made available to hotel guests at the Hotel Waldhaus Flims with the grand reopening.
Latest ALL-IP solutions from Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise can be discovered at CeBIT 2017 in Hanover (Hall 12, Stand E32).
Peter Schoch, Managing Director, Hotel Waldhaus Flims
“We asked the Alpiq InTec team to deliver the best hotel-specific communications solution available, and they’ve duly delivered. Our network needs to be resilient to every imaginable challenge, from poor weather to high demand in peak tourism seasons, and we’re confident our new infrastructure will be up to the task.”
Bruno Frommenwiler, Manager ITC Services, Alpiq InTec
“One of the major challenges was to design and deliver a modern network infrastructure in a historic hotel, during a complete building renovation. We chose to deliver all services over a single IP network to reduce the impact of our technology on the existing physical infrastructure, maximise efficiency of available space and ensure the hotel IT department can manage operations simply and centrally.”
Bruno Kolmann, Channel Sales Manager, ALE Switzerland GmbH
“Germany and Switzerland are accelerating towards ‘All-IP’ adoption, so Hotel Waldhaus Flims has placed itself firmly in the IP-based future with its new network. We’re also seeing an increasing number of hotel guests placing top priority on mobility and multiple device connectivity, which will place strain on any legacy network. With a new high capacity Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise hospitality solution, Hotel Waldhaus Flims visitors will be able to enjoy a seamless, uninterrupted guest experience.”
