RTL2, one of the largest commercial television stations in Germany, has selected Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise to upgrade its internal communications platform to keep up with the broadcasting demands of the future. Working with Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise and partner Huber & Feneberg, RTL2 implemented a new integrated solution which supported its future needs for voice, data, images and video.
The new converged solution provides an increased overall transmission rate for all communication media, adding to RTL2’s continued efforts to innovate, providing employees with smartphones, tablet PCs and Ultrabooks to facilitate mobile working.
At the heart of the new solution is the Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise OmniPCX Enterprise Communication Server, which provides access to applications and functions for employees according to their area of responsibility. The solution includes 350 access points with fibre optics ports, 50 DECT phones and 120 servers installed in the data centre. The two previous systems for voice and data were maintained by different departments, but the new converged solution can now be managed internally by the IT department. Later in 2014, RTL2 plans to implement further communications developments based on Alcatel-Lucent OpenTouch technology.
Huber & Feneberg is a certified Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise Business Partner, based in Munich, and provides planning to implementation services to medium-sized and large industrial companies, service providers and public institutions.
Reinhard Görtner, IT and Services Manager, RTL2 “We wanted to work with a smaller, regional partner who can respond quickly and flexibly to our requirements and who knows all the facets of the convergence solution we wanted to implement. With Huber & Feneberg we found a partner who meets all these criteria and who has continuously given us good advice and expert support, from day one until today.”
Thomas Feneberg, Managing Director, Huber & Feneberg “For RTL2 we built a multi-service network for data, voice, mobile and video. It leverages everything possible today in the infrastructure area, including a private service cloud with a real-time firewall.”
Klaus Tschritter, Global Account Manager, Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise “We are delighted that our technology has been selected by RTL2 to improve its internal communications infrastructure. With our converged solution, RTL2 is able to continue producing the commercial television for which it is renowned, without worrying about bandwidth for video. The fact that RTL2 also wishes to later upgrade its terminals to our product underlines the confidence in our offering.”
