CSU planning for the cloud
California State University (CSU) recently selected Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise (ALUE) to upgrade their network to 10GigE across 22 of their 23 campuses. ALUE was selected over several competitors in a deal worth $22 million dollars over the next eight years. CSU is the largest 4-year university system in the United States with 430,000 students and 44,000 faculty and staff.
Like many other customers, CSU selected ALUE because of the feature rich solutions which meet their current needs while also positioning them for the future, including 40 and 100GigE backbone technologies. The ALUE solution provides them embedded security, availability, and performance based on industry standards. An added bonus was a price point significantly lower than the bid by the incumbent provider.
The migration to the advanced, new high-speed network will enable CSU to add cloud computing technology in the future, serving its communities more efficiently and at lower costs.
The project replaces over 3300 Cisco Catalyst 6500, 4500, and 3750 switches with ALU OmniSwitch 6900s, 6850s and 6450s for a 10GigE network. The current contract is for network infrastructure products with an option for CSU to purchase ALUE communications' solutions including Alcatel-Lucent OmniPCX communication servers, related phones, and service. Alcatel-Lucent OmniAccess Wireless LAN switches, access points, security and voice professional services are also options.
CSU joins a growing number of educational institutions, healthcare organizations and other enterprises that have turned to ALUE because its solutions meet their requirements at a price point that fits their budgets. They are reassured by the industry awards won by both ALUE communications and data solutions along with accolades from industry analysts.
Customers have learned that they can depend on ALUE for innovative solutions that anticipate their technology needs. ALUE technology is backed by over 100 years of experience in voice and cutting-edge technologies from its Bell Labs group. For example:
